Mark of the stranger

Because of my atrocious sleeping habits, sleep has begun to take me in whatever class that isn't preceded by a frappuchino. It is because of this that I left Real Analysis today in a slighty dire and groggy mood.

I was passing the ampitheater on the way to the post office when I saw a pretty blonde girl in sweatpants coming down the stairs. She was looking right at me, which I found odd, and as I got closer she aimed her path right into mine and said, with quite some enthusiasm, "I have got to talk to you!"

The process of a dubious geeky mind whirred:

CCN?
Honors?
I'm in her class?
She's selling something?
CCN?
There's a guy standing behind me?

I stopped, somewhat dumfounded by her open approach, and she said, pointing to my chest "They are my favorite band, and I've never seen someone around here wearing a shirt like that!" She smiled, I smiled as I realized she was referring to my Alkaline Trio t-shirt with a heart-and-skull design.

She hadn't lost too much momentum and neigther had I, so for some reason I just smiled to her and said, "Awesome!" as we walked by each other, and I continued up the steps.

Time, it seems, has not been kind to my way with women, as it would have been so easy to say: "Really? Have you heard their new split cd? No? Here, I can send it to you online!"

Take a second and look at what you don't have

From Her Majesty's Consul General
Michael C Bates OBE

19 October 2004

Dear Mr. Collin,
Marshall Scholarship 2005-2007

The Marshall Scholarship Selection Committee for the Atlanta Region met on 18 October 2004 to consider the applications for scholarships to be awarded next year. After careful consideration the Committee reluctantly decided not to include your name among those invited to attend for an interview.

I am sorry to send you this disappointing message. Failure to secure an interview in no way implies any reflection on the ability of a candidate. There was a large number of applicants to consider, and the Committee was only able to select a very small group for interview.

Thank you for your application.
I wish you every success and happiness in your future career.

Michael Bates

Take a second and look at what you have

It’s not often that I run across a song that piques my curiosity as much as Faraquet’s “Cut Self Not.” It's one of the many songs that I've been listening to recently that make me question my reasons for being here, and for not sleeping. Flurries of air guitar madness are a necessity for this song. I guess you’ll just have to hear it yourself. Kudos to Kyle for accidentally bringing this one to my attention.

And the team captain smiles

Game 1: Team Scode VS The Goonies
LOSS: 7-15, 8-15

Game 2: Team Scode VS S-Factor
WIN: 15-3, 15-12

I'm really proud of my team. Despite attempted sabatoge on my part (my bunglings with the team roster prevented poor Maggie from playing), we took those fools in Superman t-shirts to school and back. Because of this, everyone gets their own team "Master of" title, coming soon.
